Hazard Mitigation
Santee-Lynches coordinates development and regular updates to the region's risk-based approach to reducing risks from natural hazards through mitigation planning. We work with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the South Carolina Emergency Management Department (SCEMD), and county emergency management agencies to develop and maintain a regional Hazard Mitigation Plan, which identifies needs and prioritized projects by category across the four-county region.
The regional Hazard Mitigation Plan is required as a condition for receiving certain types of non-emergency disaster assistance, including funding for mitigation projects.
